When are property taxes due?

2% Discount - October 1 - November 1, 2007
Face Amount - November 2 - December 31, 2007
5% Penalty - January 1 - 31, 2008
21% Penalty - After January 31, 2008

Where do I pay taxes?

Shelby County Sheriff's Office in the basement of the court house or you may mail your payment to:

Do you accept post marks?

Yes, as long as there is nothing wrong with the payment.  If there is something wrong with the payment and we have to send it back then we will have to take the next months payment.

If I pay by mail will you send a receipt?

We will if you send a self addressed stamped envelope.

Are there any ways to get any discounts on your tax bill?

Yes.  You can pay your bill the month of 2% discount and there are other discounts the Homestead exemption and a disability exemption.

What is the Homestead exemption?

Homestead exemption is when you turn 65 years old you can sign up for this exemption and have 31400 deducted off of your assessed value of property which will lower your payment.

Where do I sign up for Homestead exemption and when?

You will sign up for the Homestead at the Property Valuation Administrations office at the court house annex.  You will want to sign up for this exemption the year you turn 65 years old.  You may sign up even if your 64 but will turn 65 that tax year.  501 Washington Street, Shelbyville, KY 40065.  Phone number, 502-633-4403.

What is the Disability exemption?

If you are disabled you may sign up for the disability exemption.  You may need to contact the Property Valuation Administration office for the documentation that you may need to sign up for this exemption.  You have to sign up for this yearly.

Where do I sign up for the Disability exemption?

You will sign up for this in the Property Valuation Administration Office in the court house annex on Washington Street.  501 Washington Street, Shelbyville, KY 40065.  Phone number, 502-633-4403.

Do you send the tax bills to our Mortgage Companies?

No.  We send the bills to the Homeowners and it is the responsibility for the Homeowners to send bills to their Mortgage company.  The Sheriff's Office doesn't know who the tax payers mortgage companies are to be able to send bills to the mortgage company.

Can taxes be paid with credit card?

No.

What days are the Sheriff's Office open to pay taxes?

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm.  And the LAST Saturday of October, 8:30am - 12:00pm.

Will the office be closed for collecting taxes during the Holidays?

Yes.  November 12 for Veterans Day and 22 & 23 for Thanksgiving.  December 24 and 25 for Christmas.  January 2 for New Years.

Can you make partial payments?

No.
