Shelby County Adds New Vehicle to Ice and Snow Removal Fleet

SHELBYVILLE, Ky.  Shelby County Road Department Supervisor Carl Henry announces the arrival of a new vehicle capable of quick response and increasing productivity in ice and snow removal throughout urban areas.  The Chevrolet 3500, 4-wheel drive truck equipped with salt spreader and front mounted blade was put to quick use this past week as Shelby County experienced its second snowfall of the winter season. 

 

Completely controlled through the use of hydraulic lifts instead of electric, this truck prevents the reoccurring problem of damage due to salt.  Henry states, “The new truck will require 50% less maintenance than our current subdivision salt trucks, and it can hold twice as much salt on the bed of the truck.  This will save road crews times, enabling us to more quickly and effectively eliminate any snow and ice on subdivision roads.”

                                                      

County Judge Executive Rob Rothenburger states, “In addition to increasing the road department’s salt removal efficiency and success, the truck will also serve as an excellent quick response vehicle during other seasons or events that may occur.” 

 

Both Rothenburger and Henry agree that the new vehicle will prove to be a vital asset to snow removal and prevention in Shelby County.  The vehicle came fully equipped with the snow package and was purchased at a price of $49,500.  The county road department remains on the cutting edge of snow removal, ensuring that the citizens in the community can travel safety during various weather conditions.
