Shelby County Recycling Center Tops Totals for 2006
SHELBYVILLE, KY. Shelby County Solid Waste Coordinator
Russell Thomas released the recycling totals for 2007.
Thomas reported that a total of 384.48 tons of materials
were collected in 2007. This figure is up 51.88 tons from
2006. The Recycling Center credits the success and
popularity of the program to increased promotional efforts
and special collection events throughout the county. Thomas
stated that he “appreciates the responsiveness of Shelby
County and encourages everyone that recycles to spread the
news to their neighbors.”
County Judge Executive Rob Rothenburger echoed Thomas’
comments and further commended the efforts of students
throughout Shelby County public schools in raising the
awareness of a green community and environmental
stewardship.
The Recycling Center expects only continued success for 2008
as well. Recycling Specialist Val Shirley states, “Our goal
for 2008 is to collect a minimum of 400 tons of recyclable
material.” Both Shirley and Thomas are confident that with
the support of the community, this goal can be achieved.
The Recycling Center now accepts cardboard, plastics, junk
mail, aluminum cans, newspapers, and glass at their facility
located at 86 7th Street. The hours of operation
are Tuesday – Saturday, 8:30am – 4:30pm.
