Go Green Painted Stone Elementary Day

The Shelby County Fiscal Court hereby proclaims that Painted Stone Elementary is one of only 10 schools in the United States and the only school in Kentucky to Go Green. The officials of Shelby County commend the students and staff for this distinction and for learning ways to help our planet.

And we, therefore, challenge you to continue these efforts:

Whereas … to STOP THE DROPS on leaky faucets can eliminate wasting 20 gallons of water a day.

Whereas … to REDUCE the amount of paper that goes in trash cans will help because the average American uses 580 pounds of paper a year.

Whereas … to RECYCLE half the world’s paper would avoid cutting down 20 million acres of forestland.

Whereas … to PLANT A TREE can remove one ton of pollution from the air in the tree’s lifetime.

Whereas … to TURN OFF LIGHTS when not in use can save energy and money.

Whereas … to BUY SMALL BOTTLES since they save 6 million pounds of plastic a year.

This school has shown that every person has a responsibility to take an active role in becoming more eco-friendly and how they can make our world greener: at school, at home, and in the community.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Judge-executive Rob Rothenburger, do hereby proclaim January 11, 2008 as

Go Green Painted Stone Elementary Day.

I encourage all citizens to publicly and privately thank the students and staff for this monumental achievement.
