News Release
Emergency Management to
Purchase Voice Alert Notification System for Clear Creek
Park
April 5, 2010
SHELBYVILLE, KY- Shelby
County Fiscal Court approved the recommendation of
Emergency Management Director Charlie Frazee to purchase
a voice-alert notification system for Clear Creek Park.
Deputy Director Paul
Whitman stated that the system, which includes (2) two
voice alert sirens would be used to alert park visitors
and campers during inclement weather and allow them
ample time to seek shelter. One of the sirens would be
placed in Clear Creek Park and the other at the Lake
Shelby Campground.
The Fiscal Court
accepted the low bid of $29,304.50 from RCS
Communications from Louisville to purchase and install
the equipment.
The sirens are part of
a Federal Hazard Mitigation Grant that Shelby County
applied for and was approved. The grant stipulations
require Shelby County to pay only 13% of the total
project costs and Federal Funding is responsible for the
remaining 87%.
“Each year, over
500,000 visitors and campers utilize the park and
campground, safety is paramount to the staff and
directors of Shelby County parks and Recreation System,”
stated County Judge-Executive Rob Rothenburger.
Frazee estimated that
the sirens will be installed and ready for use sometime
this summer.
