Fiscal Court
Approves Salt Bids for 2011-12 Winter Season
SHELBYVILLE, KY- Even
though the spring storms linger on and summer has not
yet officially began; the Shelby County Fiscal Court
reviewed and accepted salt bids for the upcoming winter
season.
Shelby County Road
Department Supervisor Carl Henry presented the bids to
the court at Tuesday’s regular scheduled meeting and
recommended the acceptance of the low bid from Cargill
Deicing Technology in the amount of $67.45 per ton
delivered. Henry further stated that this year’s bid
included an increase in the amount of salt requested
from 1600 tons annually to 2000 tons.
By increasing the
amount of salt requested, the Shelby County Road
Department is guaranteed up to 2,000 tons or less,
depending on the severity of the upcoming winter
season. “This year’s bid of $67.45 per ton is
reasonably price,” stated Henry, “Compared to the
inflated price of $120 for a ton of salt in 2009.”
With a comfortable bid
price and an ample amount of accessible salt, Shelby
County is prepared, as always, for snow and ice season.
