Pothole Repairs Just Got a Little Bit Easier For County
Road Crews
April 8, 2011
SHELBYVILLE, KY- The
Shelby County Road Department, like many other public
works and road departments around the state, battle the
ill effects of winter and the appearance of potholes
seemingly overnight, after a long, wet and cold winter.
But response to these
untimely and burdensome roadway problems just got a
little bit easier. The Shelby County Fiscal Court
approved at Tuesday nights regular meeting, a
recommendation from County Road Supervisor Carl Henry to
purchase a 2 ton asphalt heater/mixer hauler.
Henry informed the
Court that the heater/mixer will enable road personnel
to address this plaguing problem in a more efficient and
timely manner. Winter temperatures make it extremely
difficult to maintain the fluidity of the material when
traveling around the county, which results in the
asphalt requiring to be heated with a hand “blow torch”
which can be time consuming and slow down the repair
process. The mixer/hauler will keep the asphalt material
at a constant temperature enabling road crews to pull up
to the sight and simply “shovel” the material in place,
then move on to the next location.
The new equipment has
already been purchased at the price of $11,867.00. It
should arrive in approximately 30 days. Henry plans to
use the equipment as soon as it arrives, and continue to
use it year around.
