Dead Animal Removal Assistance Approved for Shelby County

$7,500 in Kentucky Agricultural Development Funds Awarded

FRANKFORT, Ky. (June 24, 2011) - The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board, chaired by Gov. Steve Beshear, approved $7,500 at their monthly meeting in support of a Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program in Shelby County. The Shelby County Fiscal Court submitted a proposal to the Shelby County Agricultural Development Council and the Kentucky Agricultural Development Board.

The Deceased Farm Animal Removal Program was established as an interim measure to facilitate the coordination of environmentally sound and cost-effective disposal of deceased livestock for Kentucky’s producers.  Funds through this program will assist with the expenses of an acceptable disposal program, such as contracting for removal, incineration, composting or other methods that meet Kentucky statutes, for costs incurred after July 1, 2010.

For more information about Shelby County’s dead animal removal plan, contact Rusty Newton with the fiscal court at (502) 633-1220 or rusty.newton@shelbycountykentucky.com.

Gov. Steve Beshear and the General Assembly continue to make great strides toward lessening Kentucky’s dependence on tobacco production while revitalizing the farm economy by investing 50 percent of Kentucky's Master Settlement Agreement into the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund.
