Shelby County Fiscal Court
Press Release

January 21, 2009

WAZE Residential Development in Shelby County Touted as Greenest

SHELBYVILLE, KY.  Shelby County Judge-Executive Rob Rothenburger announced that the fiscal court has approved the request by the WAZE Development Company for re-zoning on 57 ± acres slated to offer multiple housing options featuring English and French Tutor design styles in Shelby County and the Louisville Metropolitan Area.

In their presentation to Shelby County Planning and Zoning, representatives from the WAZE Company cited that the development could be one of their greenest including, but not limited to, incorporating bio swales which are planted with native / prairie grasses that not only decrease the rate of water runoff, but also can be used as a filtration system to improve water quality.  Further amenities include a lake with a waterfall that can be used for fishing or other recreational activities, walking trails which will lead to the nearby new Shelby County Public School soon to be built, pervious concrete to be utilized for the sidewalks to further reduce runoff, and many additional green strategies or innovations will be incorporated in to the development.

Rothenburger stated, “This is exactly the type of approach that we are looking for in Shelby County to promote health, fitness, and environmentally friendly developments.”

The 57± acres that the WAZE Company recently presented are a portion of the 440 acres in total holdings that WAZE will ultimately be developing over the next several years.    Currently, 240± acres have already been re-zoned, accounting for 334 units slated to be built.
