Opal Metts Walking Track Dedication and the
Unveiling of the New Shelter
SHELBYVILLE, KY. Shelby County Judge-Executive Rob
Rothenburger announces the grand opening of the new
shelter located at Finchville Park. Just over 100
people attended the ceremony on Sunday afternoon.
The new facility complete with
restrooms, an indoor
meeting room, and covered outdoor picnic area was made
possible by funding through the purchase of property by
the Shelby County Fiscal Court and through state and
federal grant money.
The .8 mile walking
track was dedicated in memory of Opal Metts, of Finchville, known to her neighbors for her daily walks
throughout the community she continued into her 70's.
Future plans for the
park include playground equipment to be completed by the
end of the summer, soccer goals, and the possibility of
a future splash park.
