Clean Community Releases
2007 Litter Collection Totals
SHELBYVILLE, KY. Shelby
County Clean Community Coordinator Kathy Ranard released the
2007 totals for the litter abatement program and various
volunteer based community cleanups.
Ranard reported a total of
5,185 bags were collected throughout 2007 on various county
and state roads, compared to a total of 4,447 bags collected
in 2006. In an effort to protect our environment, the Clean
Community Program promoted additional cleanup events
including Commonwealth Clean up Week, Ky River Sweep, and
Community Days, as well as educational presentations to
local schools. These events and programs were successful in
attracting increased participation from volunteers
throughout the county.
Ranard and the Clean
Community Program work with the Detention Center utilizing
the availability of Class D inmates. By allowing the
inmates to assist with daily cleanup tasks, the county saved
$45,878.00 in 2007 alone.
The Clean Community has
numerous events scheduled for the upcoming year to promote
environmental stewardship and awareness. Any civic groups
and organizations are invited and encouraged to participate
in the community cleanup effort.
