County Animal Shelter Qualifies as No-Kill Shelter
SHELBYVILLE, KY. Shelby
County Deputy Judge-Executive and acting Animal Control
Director Rusty Newton announces that the Shelby County
Animal Shelter is now classified as a no-kill shelter.
Shelby County is the first county in the state of Kentucky
to receive this esteemed accreditation.
A shelter qualifies as "no kill," having not euthanized more
than 10 percent of the animals it collects. The Shelby
County Animal Shelter has not euthanized any healthy and
adoptable animal for an entire year. Upon reaching
this milestone, the shelter hosted a celebration on
Saturday, May 30, 2009. The community was invited to
participate in the accomplishment of this great endeavor.
Television stations WHAS 11 and Fox 41 were also present to
broadcast the event.
