Talon Winery hopes for New Vineyard Here in Shelby County!

The award winning Talon Winery has hopeful big plans for starting a vineyard here in Shelby County.  The Lexington based vineyard has proven their success in Fayette County and is excited at the possibility of starting one here in our community.  Talon owner’s Charlie Tackett and Harriett Allen have already purchased 17 acres on Gordon Lane, south of I-64, across from Brighton Industrial Park.

Amid the option of purchasing land anywhere in Kentucky it is an honor that Tackett and Allen have chosen Shelby County as their desired destination for their second vineyard.  With a clear picture of what they envision the Shelbyville Winery to be, Tackett and Allen are now just waiting for the okay to proceed with plans.  In order for the winery to be located in community, a special election will be held on December 11th, 2007 for those who live in the A102 precinct.  The election will be held at Shelby County Fire Station 2, 1000 Taylorsville Road from 6a.m. to 6p.m.  Upon receiving a winning number of votes, both owners’ are ready to get to work, hoping to have things up and running by the end of February.

“I believe Talon Winery would be a fantastic addition to the community; It has the potential to strengthen and increase both tourism and economic development positively in Shelby County,” Judge-executive Rob Rothenburger states.

The Shelby County Talon Winery & Vineyards would come complete with a house serving as the tasting room, a walking trail around an existing 3-acre lake, future plans for 5-acres full of grapes, local art gallery, and endless possibilities to host weddings, receptions, and various social events.  The refinement, success, and promising rewards that the vineyard could bring to the community, would truly make it an asset to Shelby County.
